Wood Versus Plastic in Wall Panels

Wood and plastic are popular for home improvement projects, but what about a combination of both materials? If you build your home with a combination of solid hardwood floors and sturdy plastic walls, the end result may be more pleasing to the eye than either material alone.quality wood plastic composite wpc wall panel It is this blending of the two that makes the combination wall panel strong and durable.

Plastic provides the foundation for a plastic wall, which makes the panels extremely strong.quality wood plastic composite wpc wall panel Because they are actually a seamless material, it's important to take care to assemble them properly. The panels require only a small amount of pressure to snap together.

The panels blend nicely with a selection of hardwood floors. And, because the home owner can create privacy on the lower side of the plastic panels, by installing wall panels that run from a corner to the ceiling, each room has some privacy. If your project includes an open floor plan, by installing panels on the lower side of the room and covering the open spaces with hardwood floors, you'll be able to hide unsightly areas where people might trip or step on.

In addition to blending nicely with hardwood floors, plastic also offers a clean and simple, if attractive, solid wood design. Because the panels are designed in a variety of colors, you can create a warm look that mimics hardwood. Choose natural hardwoods, such as cedar, for the paint, and add inexpensive trim, such as a faux-hardwood veneer or planking, to help create a non-flat design.

Also, the use of composite panels enables you to choose a thickness of finish. Use simple painted boards, similar to the ones you would find at the hardware store, or use a solid hardwood finish and stain. To allow moisture to permeate the wood, start by sealing the panels in place with a clear epoxy, then sand them smooth with 400 grit sandpaper.

You can also customize the appearance of the panel, adding special finishes and carpentry details. Do-it-yourselfers can buy pre-assembled panels, or hire a contractor to assemble the panel for them. Either way, keep in mind that a qualified panel builder should be able to assemble the panels correctly.

Choosing a material for a wall panel is a matter of aesthetics and cost. But, there are some practical advantages to using plastic instead of hardwood. For example, in kitchens, walls often suffer from acidic food spills, which causes structural damage.

By installing plastic wall panels over the top of plastic, the interior wall of the kitchen will not have to be painted over. The paint can simply be wiped off, and the panel placed back over the existing structure. And, since the exterior is covered with plastic, it can be sealed with an epoxy sealer to prevent water damage.
